Photos: Raptor Banding

The following photos were taken in Cape May, New Jersey during September 2012.  I joined my friend Beverly who helps Paul Napier, President of the Cape May Raptor Banding Project (http://www.capemayraptors.org/) run a banding station.  My job was to be another set of eyes. How valuable I was is questionable because of my many false raptor sightings!  But as Paul very kindly pointed out, false sightings amid valid sightings is better than no sightings.
Paul and Bev did all the trapping, net removal and banding.  I did, however, get to 'help' in some releases which is an experience I will never forget.  During our week stay, we captured and released numerous Cooper's Hawks, Merlins, Kestrels and one very cool Northern Harrier.  Due to the timing of our stay (juveniles migrate before adults)  all our captured raptors were juveniles.
I hope you enjoy the photos.
